If this little book should see the light after its 100 years of entombment, I would like its readers to know that the author was a lover of her own sex and devoted the best years of her life in striving for the political equality and social and moral elevation of women.
“The Great Geysers of California” by Laura De Force Gordon, 1879, unearthed from a 100-year-old time capsule in San Francisco, 1979.
“Wouldn’t it be wonderful if all our letters could be published in the future in a more enlightened time. Then all the world could see how in love we are.”
oh btw: if you live in Massachusetts, Right to Repair is on the ballot, which forces companies which lock you out of your own machine via apps, effectively forcing you to rely on them for support, to surrender the mechanical data, allowing you to repair your own machinery! Vote yes on right to repair!
specifically this ballot measure is about the technology in your car. basically auto manufacturers want to have their own proprietary data technology in their cars so buyers are forced to go back to dealerships in order to get diagnostics and repairs done.
voting yes on the ballot measure means auto manufacturers have to use an open data platform that will allow buyers to bring their cars to whatever mechanic they want to get things fixed.
What Nestle also did was file a lawsuit against activists and researchers who saw what it was doing, and said it can’t be held responsible for the deaths of millions because this was caused only by contaminated water. Recently enough, Nestle milk powder had larvae found in it and it’s instant noodles had lead in it
Me, wanting to buy something from a clothing company that pays living wages:god it’s so expensive It is not too expensive, it is fairly priced and I’m just not paid enough.
Honestly I have a theory that a big reason why corporations hate the idea of higher wages is that their entire business model revolves around having the lowest prices, rather than the best product or service. If we get paid better, we can afford to make a choice.
Oh
this actually isn’t just a theory, it’s an entire deliberate tactic, and if you major in business they literally spend multiple semester-long classes teaching you how to do it
